I am an oil painter who was first inspired to take up art by my third grade teacher in Rome, New York. After my career in the Air Force, then at Raytheon, I was finally able to pursue my lifelong dream of studying art.
I have studied watercolor with Roland Roycraft, of Beulah, Michigan, oil painting with Vickie Wells of Tucson, colored pencil with Elaine Larson of Michigan, drawing with Nicholas Wilson in Tubac, oil painting with Phil Starke, and oil painting with Katie Iverson in the Tanque Verde Community Program. My work has been displayed in shows in Tucson, Arizona and Frankfort, Michigan. (See Shows and Exhibitions.) I’m inspired by the flow of life I see in rivers, and in the desert, and patterns of shadow and light found in southwestern mountains. I have been drawn to paint the Sonoran Desert, and lakes, streams and dunes of northern Michigan. I feel a special affinity with wildlife, and like to include birds, fish and wildlife in my landscapes. I love to paint desert scenery because the colors of the desert surprise me. It’s a terrific feeling to be able to create a painting reflecting my natural surroundings. I feel the ability to be creative is a gift from God.
